The Circle, The Stars, and The Wizard: How a 10-Year-Old’s Discovery Became My Life’s Work

A perfect circle, a sky of city stars, and that quiet feeling of standing at a threshold. Some moments don’t just look beautiful, they call you back to who you’ve always been.

I took this photo Monday night at holiday party. Something about it stopped me … the perfect circle framing the city lights like stars, the sense of standing at a threshold between worlds. I posted it with a reflection about being in the trenches of growth while still seeing the magic and beauty all around us.

But the next morning, I woke up thinking about a book.

**The Once and Future King** by T.H. White. I read it when I was 10, maybe 11, a voracious reader hungry for adventure and magic. But what I found in those pages wasn’t what I expected. It wasn’t about spells or sorcery. It was about something that shook me awake in a way I didn’t even have words for yet.

It was Merlin.

Not Merlin the magician with his tricks and transformations. Merlin the *teacher*. Merlin who understood that we’re surrounded by so much more than what we can see. That trusting your instinct, your intuition, paying attention to *why* things happen in your life … that’s the real magic. Everything is a lesson if you’re awake enough to receive it.

I remember finishing that book and feeling like I’d been let in on a secret. Like someone had whispered to me: “Pay attention. There’s meaning here. Trust what you know.”

✨✨53 Years Later

Now I’m 63. I’ve spent the last four or five years training as a certified life coach and spiritual counselor. I’ve built my practice around three pillars: “Longevity, Movement, and Mindfulness”. My brand is “Science and Soul” that integration of what we can measure and what we can only sense, of body and spirit, of the practical and the profound.

And that morning, looking at that circular photo with its backdrop of stars, I realized: I’ve come full circle.

That 10-year-old reading about Merlin was receiving her calling. She just didn’t know it yet.

✨The Third Pillar

People understand the first two pillars easily. “Longevity” taking care of our bodies, our health, our physical vitality. “Movement” keeping ourselves strong, flexible, engaged with the physical world. These make sense. We can see them, measure them, feel them in our muscles and our energy levels.

But it’s the “third pillar” the mindfulness work, the soul connection that changes everything.

Because without it, the other two are just maintenance. They’re going through the motions. You can have a long life and a strong body and still feel like something’s missing. Still feel disconnected from your own wisdom. Still miss the magic that’s shimmering all around you.

This third pillar is about what Merlin taught young Arthur: Wake up. Pay attention. Trust your inner knowing. Understand that you’re part of something larger, that patterns and meaning are woven through everything, that your intuition is a compass if you’ll learn to read it.

It’s about recognizing that we’re surrounded by more than we can see with our physical eyes. That being in “the trenches of growth” … those hard, challenging, uncomfortable places is exactly where the transformation happens. That’s where the stars shine brightest.

Science AND soul. Body AND spirit. The measurable AND the mysterious.

You need all three pillars. That’s what makes the circle complete.

✨✨Your Merlin Moment

So here’s what I’m curious about: When was your Merlin moment?

When did you first sense there was more to life than what you could see on the surface? What book, what experience, what quiet whisper made you stop and think: Oh. There’s something deeper here. Something I need to pay attention to.

Maybe you were 10 like me. Maybe it was last week. Maybe it’s happening right now as you read this.

The beautiful thing about this work about integrating science and soul, body and spirit …is that it’s never too late. The circle is always ready to complete itself. The stars are always there in the background, even when we forget to look up.

And maybe, just maybe, you’re ready to trust that inner knowing that’s been waiting for you to listen.

That’s what the third pillar is all about.

✨✨Three Ways to Awaken Your Inner Merlin This Week

✨1. The Pause Practice (Mindfulness)

Before you react to anything today a text, an email, a moment of stress … take three conscious breaths. Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 6. This activates your parasympathetic nervous system (the science) and creates space for your intuition to speak (the soul). Merlin’s wisdom came from his ability to pause and “see” what others missed.

✨✨2. The Pattern Journal (Soul Work)

Each evening this week, write down one “coincidence” or moment that made you pause. That song on the radio. That unexpected conversation. That circle in a photo. Don’t analyze it - just notice it. By week’s end, you’ll start seeing the patterns Merlin knew were always there. Your intuition speaks in whispers; this practice helps you hear it.

✨3. The Body Scan Truth (Science Meets Soul)✨

Your body knows things before your mind does. Research shows our gut produces 95% of our serotonin your “gut feeling” is literally neurological wisdom. This week, when facing a decision, close your eyes and scan your body. Does your chest tighten or open? Does your stomach clench or settle? Your body is giving you data. Trust it.
